THE WILLIAM J. ORCHARD MEDAL

William J. Orchard was one of the men who initiated the formation of the Federation of Sewage Works Associations, now the Water Environment Federation. He was a member of the committee responsible for the development of a formal plan for the organization of the federation and served as chair of the Federation finance committee from 1928 to 1961.

In tribute to his long years of service to the Federation, the Executive Committee established this medal in 1961 and elected Mr. Orchard its first recipient. Since 1961, only 13 members have been awarded the Orchard Medal. The Water Environment Federation House of Trustees nominates for this award.
